Virtual Therapy
Access expert care for your teen—without leaving home.
Our virtual treatment program provides flexible, structured support for teens and adolescents facing substance use and mental health challenges. Through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions, your teen can receive therapy, clinical guidance, and ongoing support in a familiar, comfortable environment.
At New Pathway in New Jersey, our virtual program is designed to deliver the same evidence-based care and clinical expertise as our in-person services—while making treatment more accessible for families balancing school, transportation, and daily responsibilities.
At New Pathway in New Jersey, we offer virtual treatment programs designed specifically for teens and adolescents facing substance use and mental health challenges. Through secure, live telehealth sessions, teens receive the same high-quality care as our in-person programs—while staying connected to home, school, and daily life.
Our virtual programs provide structured, flexible support that meets teens where they are—helping them build real-world coping skills, improve emotional well-being, and continue progressing in recovery.
Structured, intensive care for teens struggling with drug or alcohol use—delivered entirely online. This track includes group therapy, individual counseling, relapse prevention, and medication-assisted treatment support when appropriate.
We treat:
Comprehensive virtual care for adolescents experiencing mental health challenges, using evidence-based therapies and psychiatric support.
We treat:
Integrated care for teens experiencing both substance use and mental health conditions—treating both at the same time for stronger, more lasting outcomes.
All virtual treatment tracks include:
No matter which track your teen needs, they receive the same clinical quality and structure as in-person treatment—just delivered virtually.
A virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) is structured, real-time treatment delivered through secure video sessions. This is not self-guided or pre-recorded—your teen participates in live therapy with licensed clinicians and peers.
Virtual IOP provides:
The only difference? Your teen logs in from home instead of traveling to a facility.
Teens can receive expert care without the need to travel—especially helpful for families in areas with limited access to adolescent treatment.
No commuting, scheduling conflicts, or reliance on transportation—just log in and attend.
Virtual care allows teens to maintain routines while receiving structured support.
Many teens feel more comfortable opening up in a familiar environment, leading to stronger engagement in therapy.
Treatment happens in a private setting, without the visibility of attending a physical location.
Eliminating travel makes it easier to stay consistent with care and reduces pressure on families.
Yes. Research shows that virtual behavioral health treatment can be just as effective as in-person care for both substance use and mental health conditions.
What makes it effective:
Teens often attend more consistently and stay more engaged when barriers like travel and scheduling are removed.

Clear, practical answers to help you understand how virtual intensive outpatient treatment works—and whether it’s the right level of care for you.
Yes—for many individuals, virtual Intensive Outpatient Programs are shown to be just as effective as in-person care. Research supports comparable outcomes when treatment includes structured programming, licensed clinicians, evidence-based therapies, and consistent engagement. At New Pathway, our Virtual IOP uses the same clinical standards, therapeutic models, and care teams as our in-person programs—delivered securely online.
We understand privacy can be a concern. Our admissions and clinical teams will work with you to identify practical solutions, such as scheduling flexibility, using headphones, or identifying alternative private locations when needed. If a private environment cannot be reasonably established, we’ll help determine whether an in-person program may be a better fit.
If technical issues arise, our team will immediately work with you to reconnect or provide an alternative method to continue care when possible. Occasional disruptions are manageable, and consistent access issues are addressed proactively to ensure continuity of treatment.
Yes. Virtual IOP sessions can be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, or computer, as long as the device supports secure video conferencing. Our team will help ensure your setup meets basic requirements before treatment begins.
Participation expectations are discussed clearly during onboarding. In most group and individual sessions, video participation is encouraged to support therapeutic engagement, accountability, and connection—but accommodations can be discussed based on clinical needs or temporary circumstances.
Relapse is treated as a clinical event—not a failure. If substance use occurs, your care team will reassess your treatment needs and adjust your plan accordingly. This may include increased support, additional sessions, or a recommendation for a higher level of care if clinically appropriate. Your safety and recovery always come first.
Your mental health is closely monitored throughout treatment. If symptoms intensify, our clinical team will intervene promptly—adjusting therapy, involving psychiatric support, or recommending a higher level of care when needed. Guardian Recovery and our Immersion centers are a dual-diagnosis provider, meaning mental health and substance use concerns are addressed together, not separately.
Yes. Many individuals in Virtual IOP also participate in online AA, NA, or other peer-support meetings. These meetings can complement your clinical treatment by providing additional connection and accountability. Your care team can help you identify appropriate support meetings that align with your recovery goals.
Many insurance plans do cover Virtual Intensive Outpatient treatment, but coverage varies by provider and policy. Our admissions team will verify your benefits, explain any out-of-pocket costs, and help you understand your options before treatment begins. All benefit checks are confidential and obligation-free.
Eligibility for Virtual IOP depends on state licensing regulations and clinical appropriateness. New Pathway can provide virtual treatment to clients in certain states. Our admissions team will confirm availability based on your location and help determine the best treatment option if virtual care is not clinically or legally appropriate in your state.
Yes. If your needs change or you prefer in-person care, your treatment plan can be adjusted. New Pathway offers in-person outpatient services across New Jersey and when clinically appropriate, we support seamless transitions between levels of care to ensure continuity and stability in your treatment.
